Massage Marketing To Dentists
April 29th, 2006 by Michael HumphreysHere is a question I received once before from a loyal reader. I’ve decided to share my answer with everyone here on my blog.
Hey Mike,I want to go after a new niche in my practice- Dentists. I have 2 clients who are dentists and they come in once a week and have $$$. From my research, most dentist are in pain (upperback/neck) due to their profession. I have written a Special Report about Dentistry and the Muscular pain and imbalances and of course how I can help.I did a search of dentists in my area (5mile radius) and came up with 100+ I see a potential but don’t know the best way to go about it. Do I mail them my free report, stop in and give them a copy? Any suggestions? Thanks as always Mike M.
Dentists are a great target market for massage therapists to go after and I’d encourage you to do so.
First, let’s start with what you should NOT do: show up at their office unannounced. Chances are they will be busy with patients and won’t have the time or interest to talk with you at that time.
That means you’ll get as far as the secretary who will probably place your marketing materials in the circular file, a.k.a. trashcan after you leave.
Sorry, but I’ve made this mistake in the past myself and it’s never produced results for me. It’s comparable to someone trying to sell you massage oil in person when you’re in the middle of doing a massage on a paying client. It could be a great massage oil, and you might really benefit from it, but they’re asking you at the wrong time.
There’s more than one way to peel the marketing apple and get the results you’re looking for. The marketing weapon you choose will depend on your personality (outgoing or shy) and marketing budget (bottomless pit or tighter than rubber band).
In Help Your MASSAGE Practice, there’s a lot of great information. In fact, we have dedicated chapters on Public Speaking, Advertising, Using Free Reports, Referrals, Lead Generation…each of these weapons can be possible options to reach your goal of drawing dentists as new massage clients.
Here’s one suggestion that you can start with. You have clients already who are dentists. Find out who they use as their dentist and ask them to pass along one of your business cards to their dentist.
Best Of Luck,
Michael Humphreys
