Resource For Acid Reflux Disease
January 12th, 2006 by Michael HumphreysI never knew how painful Acid Reflux could be until I developed it myself. Sure, I had a number of massage clients over the years that mentioned it or put it on the client intake form, but I never gave it a second thought.
The year was 1999 and I had opened my massage therapy center. Like many start-up businesses, I was working a lot of hours and battling a lot of stress (both professional and personal life stress).
I remember my first acid reflux attack. Initially I thought I was having a heart attack. It was that painful. I went to the doctor and he put me on medication. Pretty soon, I was taking that medication 3-4 times a day, popping them like they were breath mints.
Of course, no one told me about dietary changes I needed to make. Or how drinking 6 cans of caffeinated soda every day would play havoc with my acid reflux.
So I started working on decreasing the stress in my life. I made some dietary changes, including eliminating the daily six pack of soda habit. I started working out again and lost 20 pounds that had slowly crept on over the previous three years.
As a result, I can count on one hand the number of acid reflux attacks I’ve had since and I no longer need the medicine.
Fast forward to 2005. I found myself talking to three different massage clients in one week about acid reflux. All of them asked if there were any websites I could recommend me where they could learn more about the disease.
I decided to have an information website built about Acid Reflux Facts to refer my clients to when it was appropriate. And now I’ve decided to mention it here in my blog.
